The Monte Vista Way
Since 1963, Monte Vista has built a legacy of community and service to our Vista families. Our vision for the future honors this legacy by cultivating student leaders that are prepared for the challenges of our 21st century world. In March 2020, Monte Vista was officially recognized by Franklin Covey and the Leader in Me Organization as a Lighthouse School. We join a select number of schools across the nation that implement exemplary leadership programs. We will continue to deepen our work by guiding students to uncover their strengths and interests, and build connections to college and career. Read the Monte Vista Way

Our Mindset:
We have adopted a mindset that grows leadership in students and staff. In
Monte Vista Elementary, as a community of learners we are each committed to:
Knowing Myself: I find new interests, develop strengths, and work through
challenges. I know that I grow from taking responsible risks and getting feedback
Knowing My Impact: I listen and learn from my community as we work to create
change. I know that change takes time and I am patient and persistent to meet my goals.
Our Instructional Approach
College and Career
We design authentic learning experiences connected to college and career, including opportunities to engage with professionals in the community. In addition, we promote student discovery of strengths, interests, and values through engaging classroom activities and labs.
Leadership
At the core of our vision, we believe every student can be a leader. This means providing students with opportunities to lead and capitalize on their unique talents. We use the language of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People to grow soft skills and support social-emotional well-being.
Balanced Literacy and Math
We provide a rigorous academic program that balances foundational skills in reading and math with authentic real-world problems. Students are at the center of their academic journey, maintaining a personal leadership binder and leading a yearly student-led conference.
